Ohio Sports Massage Team (OSMT)
Membership Criteria
There are two membership classifications that one can apply for
Student Sports massage Volunteer
Certified Event Sports Massage Therapist
The following lists are criteria to apply for and maintain membership on the Ohio Sports Massage Team.
Student Sports Massage Volunteer
A Student volunteer provides support staff services to assist the activities of the team chairperson, the event coordinator, and the massage therapists working an event. There are no training requirements for team membership.
To become a student volunteer member of the team:
- Be currently enrolled in massage school, or
- Be a recent massage school graduate, or
- Be a licensed massage therapist without having completed the appropriate sports massage course work,
and - Have liability insurance equal to or exceeding AMTA liability insurance.
Certified Event Sports Massage Therapist
An event sports massage therapist provides sports massage services according to AMTA-OSMT guidelines.
To become a member of the team member:
- Be an AMTA professional or associate member with active status
- Have completed the AMTA Ohio Event Sports Massage training*
- Have liability insurance equal to or exceeding AMTA liability insurance
- Have a current Ohio license to practice therapeutic massage therapy
- Have completed the necessary conditional and full membership applications
Training*
The AMTA Ohio Event Sports Massage training is a formalized 12 hour course including CEU’s in Pre-Event and Post-Event Sports Massage Classes.
Membership Maintenance
Active members must continue to meet the membership criteria and participate in at least two events per year. At least one event must be a team sanctioned/sponsored event.
