In 1998, while working on a master's degree at OSU in Somatics, Paul was looking for a way to help people improve their health and well-being. He decided that becoming a massage therapist could be a better way to do that. So he left OSU and entered Massage Away school of therapy (now American Institute of Alternative Medicine) and was licensed as a therapist in January of 2000. He spent the next five years working full-time in a clinical setting, doing a lot of deep tissue and trigger point therapy. With the birth of his son, Paul went out on his own, working part-time visiting people in their homes. In addition, he contracts with a couple of adult daycare centers where he provides massage therapy and teaches a taiji-based movement for health class. He and his family have really enjoyed the flexibility offered by this profession.

Paul has served on the Board of Directors as the secretary for a number of years. In that time, he has also chaired the standing rules committee and spear-headed efforts to increase volunteer involvement with the chapter. It has been fun seeing how the chapter has changed over the last five years.

Paul and his wife Lori and son Carver live in Columbus and enjoy being creative and making all kinds of crafty things.

I graduated with honors from The American Institute of Alternative Medicine in Columbus, Ohio in June 2007.  I have been interested in wellness therapy for many years and am grateful to be able to work in such a gratifying job!

I am currently performing massage therapy at Back to Health Family Chiropractic in Hillsboro, and at Main Street Yoga in Wilmington.  I am certified for pre/post natal massage and am a Reiki practioner.  I am a volunteer LMT and Reiki practioner for Community Care Hospice in Wilmington, Ohio.

I am excited to be in the position of 1st Vice President for AMTA working with Legislation and Law.  Massage Therapy is an ever-changing and growing profession across the country and in Ohio.  It is my goal to be informed of any course of action related to our profession so that I may in turn inform AMTA members.  We can make a difference together.

I live with my son Evan in Hillsboro.  My daughter Kelly and her family (Joe and Tannor) just moved nearby, and I am so excited to be closer to my new grandson!

I enjoy nature, art, music, fitness, and am grateful, thankful, and blessed.

I completed my foundational training in Massage Therapy in 2005 at Columbus State Community College and went on to complete advanced training in neuromuscular, fascial release, positional release, and muscle energy techniques.  In addition, I am a 2003 graduate of the Ohio State University with a BS in interdisciplinary studies combining human physiology, motor control and learning, and cultural studies in movement.

Today, I live and work in Columbus where I am in my third year as a therapist at The Ohio State University with the Department of Recreational Sports.  I enjoy the challenge of being a generalist in the large and diverse Ohio State community.

Like many broadly-focused practices, while seeing many different concerns I work most frequently with people in pain.  In addition to stress relief and injury management approaches in my therapy, I specialize in combining targeted fascial, neuromuscular, and Swedish techniques for thorough and yet gentle pain relief.

I hope to help the AMTA-Ohio continue to grow as a trusted center of information and action regarding all the different faces and uses of massage therapy.  And I hope to do it together - with growing participation by you, our members.

I share my home with two small cats, sunlight from big windows, books on communication and pain research, and magazines on architecture and design.

I graduated from the National Institute of Massotherapy in Akron, Ohio in March of 1999 and have a B.A. in Therapeutic Recreation from Ohio University from 1994.

My massage work experience includes hospital based rehabs, fitness centers, and day spas.  Since 2001, I have been independently employed within a Wellness Center in Avon Lake, Ohio where my main areas of focus are athletes and therapeutic massage for pain management.

I have a love for teaching and continuous learning.  Currently, I am a lead instructor teaching Earle Timberlake’s Somatic Release in Clinical Massage series in the Cleveland area and have been working with Earle since 1999.  I have also taught in the massage therapy program at a local Cleveland school from 2004-2006.

I truly believe we are in an amazing profession with great potential, and now is the time for us to band together to get through these times of change within healthcare.  That is why I chose to become more involved in Membership and hopefully inspire more of my peers (that’s you!) to do the same.  I look forward to working with you to make this association what you, the members want.  Thank you for giving me that opportunity.

When not at work, I enjoy being out in nature, triathlons, baking, and spending time with my family and friends.

Hi there!  I am Robin Vandegrift and I am excited to have been recently elected as the new Secretary of the Board of Directors of AMTA-Ohio. This involves recording and reporting what goes on at BOD and other official meetings and conference calls.

I live and work in Uniontown - midway between Akron and Canton.  Having gotten my license in 2003, I worked part-time as an LMT in addition to being an owner/operator of  Dairy Queen franchises along with my husband Bill.  We sold our last location a year ago and now I can dedicate myself to massage full-time.

In addition to my new BOD position, I am a member of the House of Delegates for the second time in the past 3 years.  Also, I just became a member of Ohio MERT (Massage Emergency Response Team) at the spring AMTA-Ohio conference.  If you are not familiar with that, it is a group of specially trained volunteers who deploy to give massages to the first-responders (police, firefighters, EMTs) in the event of disasters in Ohio.

You will be hearing from me in future newsletters regarding the minutes I take at various meetings throughout the year.

Should you have anything that you would like to see addressed at any of our scheduled meetings, you are welcome to contact me directly to share your questions or concerns.

I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Medical Massage in May 2008 and was licensed in July of that year.  I also have a BA in Business Administration from Notre Dame College of Ohio.  Prior to becoming a massage therapist I spent 35 years in the corporate world as an accountant/auditor in the retail oil/gas/automotive repair business.

Currently, I have a private home-based practice doing therapeutic and stress reduction work.  I am a strong believer that massage is moving from a complementary or alternative practice into the mainstream of traditional medicine.

I joined AMTA as a student because the organization had the best member benefits.  The state chapter along with the availability of reasonably priced continuing education was very appealing as it gave me an opportunity to meet other therapists and improve my skills.  A friend brought me to the board.  I believe I can use my past life experience in business together with my current work to further the mission of the Ohio Chapter to support and nourish the Massage Profession and our individual members.

I received my Associates Degree in Massage Therapy from Columbus State Community College in September 2002 and I have been practicing massage since passing the Ohio Boards that December.  For the past four years I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to build my practice at Scioto Country Club where I work in the fitness center performing therapeutic and myofascial massage.

I enjoy taking continuing education courses because alternative medicine fascinates me!  We can never learn too much!

I love fitness, dancing, cooking, reading and spending time with my husband, daughter and 2 crazy dogs.

My goals for this year are to finally learn to use my sewing machine, go camping (often), start an herb garden and to build an Education Commitee for the Ohio Chapter of AMTA.  It will be a busy year, but as always, I look forward the challenge!
