Finally! Coming soon....
A new license exam for Ohio!
MBLEx, the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination, was created by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards to provide an entry-level licensing exam for Massage Therapy across the country.
Its aim is to help standardize the process by which people become licensed therapists. Adoption of this exam will be good for massage therapists in Ohio for a number of reasons:
- It will promote portability, making it easier for massage therapists to move from one state to another.
- It will improve accessibility for the exam. Candidates will not longer have to travel to the Ohio State Fairgrounds to take the exam. It will be offered in a large number of professional test centers across the state (and across the country).
- It will help candidates become licensed in a more timely manner. The exam can be taken anytime, rather than only the two set times each year we struggle with today.
For the Ohio State Medical Board to be able to adopt this new exam, they must be given authority by the Ohio legislature to change how therapists can be licensed. This is because today, the Board is strictly required by law to use their own exam.
The AMTA-Ohio Chapter is actively assisting the Medical Board with getting a bill passed that will allow this important improvement to happen.
